Description:Dissatisfied with his life, Eddie throws a sleeping bag and a carrier loaded only with a change of clothes and meager supplies into his car and drives aimlessly out of town without the slightest hint of a plan about where he is going. When a static-filled voice addresses him directly through his radio (a signal which amazingly he never loses regardless of his location), he surprises himself by following his invisible companion's directions, which take him on a terrifying journey through the Appalachian mountain region. His travels include chats with mysterious visitors who appear at his campfire each night with new stories suggested from the old tales of mountain folklore such as the eerie Brown Mountain lights in North Carolina and the moon-eyed people of Tennessee, as well as disturbing conversations with people in West Virginia and Maryland who tell him of more recent stories that have surfaced of the mischievous Kentucky goblins and an extra-terrestrial monster that terrorized several youngsters in Flatwoods, West Virginia. Eddie's exposure to these Appalachian terrors are not limited to the fireside tales of strangers; he experiences some of these creatures, cryptids, and creepy spirits first-hand. David Allen Voyles' inspiration for this story comes once again from an album of dark ambient music created by Mombi Yuleman. The sites and stories around which the beautifully eerie tracks on the album Wraiths of the Appalachian were based are all part of a story Yuleman invites his listener to imagine. Voyles took the idea suggested by the album to create his own story using the same basic tales and sites, which can also be heard on the horror podcast, Dark Corners with David Allen Voyles.
