Description:Dulu Wang (1909-1977), was a famous Chinese Wu Xia (which literally means “heroes with martial art skills”) writer in the 1930s and 1940s who wrote many novels including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ( 臥虎藏龍 ) Pentalogy which was adapted into a film under the title “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” by Ang Lee and his colleagues in 2000. Its spectacular action, rhapsodic landscapes and tragic romance have touched audiences in Asia, North America and around the world and won over 40 awards including Academy Awards of Best Foreign Language Film, Best Art Direction, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. Wang was less interested in writing about ruthless killings; instead he focused on his characters’ development, their emotions, friendship, and passions. Wang had great sympathy for women who suffered cruel oppression by the society, and his novels featured many strong female characters, warriors, and heroines. Most of his stories featured tragic endings. His perfect combination of wuxia, romance and tragedy in his novels have thrilled many critics and readers and this style have influenced many authors.During 1925-1949 Wang published more than 90 novels and thousands of articles and poems. The Collected Works of Dulu Wang has many Wuxia novels including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Pentalogy. This Volume Two includes 《大漠雙鴛譜》The Swordswoman In The Gobi Desert,《紫鳳鏢》Phoenix Courier Guards, 《繡帶銀鏢》Embroidered Belt, Silver Dart, and 《燕市俠伶》Starring Actor, Hidden Hero.“The Swordswoman In The Gobi Desert” was published in 1944. The story occurred in Xianjiang Province in China in the early 1880s of Qing Dynasty. A young female knight fought against evils in the Gobi Desert area, saved a kidnaped woman and fell in love with a knight. After she realized she cannot marry anyone because of her lifetime mission to fight against evil, she disappeared in the desert.“Phoenix Courier Guards” was published in 1946. The story was about a female knight fought against evils with the help of a warrior who later married her. After they killed the evils they lived together peacefully, but she was seriously injured, in both body and mind, and fell unhappy because of her miserable experience and her husband’s previous suspicion on her histrory.“Embroidered Belt, Silver Dart” was published in 1947. The story occurred in the late Qing Dynasty. The young Liu Defei had outstanding martial arts skills. He once rescued a concubine Xiaofang who was abused in a wealthy family. After that, the two fell in love. The heroine Lu Bao'e, who was good at darts, also fell in love with Liu Defei. She accidentally killed Xiaofang with a dart. Lu Bao'e was remorseful and hanged herself. Liu Defei, then became mentally disordered.“Starring Actor, Hidden Hero”was published in 1948. This story occurred in the Qing Dynasty. A young Qin Opera actor concealed his identity and joined a family school to learn Beijing Opera.
