ALTERNATING VIEWS 2.0: The Essays

Description:Alternating Views 2.0 is a compendium, or perhaps, more precisely, a compilation of essays of ideas, of comments, and of critiques on a variety of subjects, with no particular rhyme or reason. The understanding behind these essays has to be viewed through the transparency of the flavor in the words of my poem, "Room without a Wall," cited above. Suggested is what is called today, "thinking outside of the box," if you will? When I wrote this poem, as a child, there was only "the box," and, at that time, no one had even imagined thinking outside of it. The essays in Alternating Views 2.0 explain how ideas are not there until they are there. For instance, in the cited poem, if you never think about the wall, then it remains a wall until you can conceive it as not being a wall, or barrier to the outside. To me, thinking is the ultimate "first amendment," which should be free and open, but limited only by the words that a thought reflects, and the sense that thought eventually has to make. Otherwise, "It remains, but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained." (Haile Selassie, 1968) Our thoughts must make some sense to others or they stay in that "room" that is our mind. So, open your mind to hear my thoughts as you read, and enjoy! That said; Alternating Views 2.0 follows no patterns at all! In fact, it is more or less, like a 'talk show' on a variety of subjects. What is more amazing, since I believe I write poetry first, is that my essays usually unfold when my poems cannot express all I need to say; or they expound further, beyond and outside the verse. Sometimes, I may desire to be perfectly clear, not to leave too much to literary interpretations; so, I truly hope, you understand what I am saying, even if you do not agree with particular points. My desire that my words give you an idea, or nudge you to a space, which is somewhere beyond the confines of the room that is outside of your mind. So, enjoy the journey! Jeffrey V.
