It is a comprehensive collection of Thompson's known works, commentaries, and life sketches including a synopsis of his life entitled, Brief Francis Thompson by Carroll B. Chilton; The Complete Poetical Works of Francis Thompson; The Prose Works of Francis Thompson; and a biography entitled, "The Life of Francis Thompson" by Everard Meynell (1913). Delphi Classics has arranged his poetical works in volumes as they were originally published during Thompson's life which include Poems on Children, Sister Songs, Love in Dian's Lap, and The Hound of Heaven to name a few. In addition, prose, mainly essays, by Thompson is included in the collection, much of which was published after the poet's death. Many of his essays discuss the lives and works of other authors such as Shelley, Coleridge, Milton, and Dante. Regarding Thompson's essays, Mr. Wilfrid Meynell, who could be considered Thompson's benefactor for many years, stated in the preface "If Francis Thompson’s concern for the Prose of Poets is the Reader’s too, this volume carries its own proper passport on its title-page. Of this Poet’s prose, his Shelley Essay stands first among even his own writings.
